Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT)’s opening of the Bashir Dawood Transplant Operation Theatre Complex bookmarked yet another pivotal milestone in its journey to becoming the leading medical hub in Pakistan. The nation’s first-ever Transplant Centre attained generous donations and contributions by philanthropist and entrepreneur, Bashir Dawood.
After 4 years of construction and at a cost of Rs 1.5 billion, the Transplant Centre officially opened its doors on March 3, 2018. The 250,000 sq ft 14-story building houses a 100-bed facility with integrated medical amenities like intensive care units (ICU), rehabilitation equipment and centres, futuristic operation thereat as well as donor wards, out-patient’s clinic, radiology departments, and emergency rooms. It was established specifically to manage delicate human organs such as the intestine, pancreas, cornea and bone marrow. Through the acquisition of state-of-the-art medical materials, the SIUT remains dedicated to its pursuit of centralizing all transplant activities under one roof.
